The Domaine Pierre Gelin is a family estate of approximately 11.5 ha in the villages of Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin.
Founded in 1925 by Pierre Gelin, the wine estate has been run by Stéphen Gelin since 1969 and is being taken over by his son Pierre-Emmanuel who takes great care as regards the cultivation methods: he practices “lutte raisonnée”, a reasoned approach to winegrowing, and ploughs the vineyards. If fertilisers are used at all, they are of natural origin (algae and manure from organic farming). In order to obtain grapes of optimal quality and maturity, we carry out very selective disbudding as well as manual thinning of the leaves and have raised the trellis.
While the vinification process remains traditional, we continually strive to improve the quality of our wines. They are matured for 20 to 22 months in oak barrels, a certain percentage of which are new barrels depending on the type of wine and the vintage. The wines are then bottled on the estate, but not sold until one or two years later.
Types of wines:
Bourgogne Passetoutgrain, Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne Rouge Fixin, Fixin Premier Cru Les Hervelets, Premier Cru Les Arvelets, Premier Cru Clos Napoléon (monopoly), Gevrey-Chambertin Clos de Meixvelle (monopoly), Premier Cru Clos Prieur, Chambertin Clos de Bèze.
Distribution:
50 % of our wines are exported. In France our wines are sold in the traditional distribution channels, i.e. restaurants, wine shops and private individuals.
References:
Our wines regularly receive awards at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris and are well-placed in the wine guides Hachette, Dussert-Gerber, Fleurus des Sommeliers as well as in specialised magazines such as Bourgogne Aujourd’hui and Revue des Vins de France. They are also selected for the “Cave de Prestige” of the Burgundy wine trade body BIVB. |
